In this blog post, we are asked to summarize our call/meeting with our learning partner to discuss trends in our field and adult education. I am fortunate to have Prabhroop Athwal as my learning partner for this assignment. She's a registered nurse with a nursing background primarily in acute medical/surgical care. In addition, she's an instructor at Vancouver Community College. She teaches in the Practical Nursing Program. The Flipped classroom is one of the trends she sees in adult education. Improvement in student learning, engagement, and motivation are some of the advantages of this instructional strategy. However, Prabh also mentioned some of its challenges. Student responsibility is one of them. Students will experience a lack of engagement with the topic due to a lack of preparation for the class. Prabh has a blog that provides more information about flipped classrooms. I recommend everyone to check it out. In addition, she also shares her thoughts and experiences in the classroom in her blog post.
Another topic that we discussed is the trends in our respective fields. Prabh has many years of experience in the field of nursing. The trend that stands out the most is nursing burnout. I'm pretty sure no one has forgotten about Covid-19. There are many of us who can share our experiences and struggles during the pandemic. Additionally, it highlighted the word "burnout" in our nurses. As mentioned in Prabh's blog post, burnout has been present in her career for a very long time. Also, she believes that nursing students should learn more about self-care and strategies for maintaining a healthy mind and body. I would also like to thank Prabh and all the nurses that took care of our family and friends during unprecedented times. Without their help, dedication, and passion, the world might not be as good as it is today. Here's the blog post of Prabh to learned more about nursing burnout. Overall, I enjoyed our conversation and learning more about each other's careers.
